Iraq's Thirst

A country already burdened by 50 years of war and political instability, and an economy anchored on fossil fuels, climate change presents a formidable challenge for Iraq
Iraq is currently confronted with a dire environmental crisis, a crisis that has been exacerbated by the far-reaching consequences of climate change. This situation has given rise to a host of pressing issues, including prolonged droughts, widespread desertification, and the looming specter of severe repercussions. Perhaps nowhere is this crisis more evident than in the southern marshes of Iraq, where communities are grappling with the harsh realities of a parched landscape.
The Forum has channeled its efforts engaging discussions and convening workshops with pertinent governmental and community authorities, UN organizations in Iraq, and supporting nations. These collaborative efforts are unified around a central mission: to chart a clear and actionable road map for addressing the climate challenges posed, mitigate its impacts and pave the way towards a more sustainable future for Iraq, the region and the planet.
